Dental Crowns in Dover, NJ. Custom-crafted, built to last 20 years.
A dental crown covers and protects a tooth that has been weakened by decay, fracture, or a root canal. Dr. Priya uses digital scanning and a master ceramist to deliver crowns that look, feel, and function exactly like natural teeth.
A dental crown at Vedha Family Dentistry takes 2 visits over about 2 weeks and lasts 15 to 25 years with normal care. Crowns are used to protect teeth after root canals, repair cracked or severely decayed teeth, and restore teeth with large failed fillings. Most PPO plans cover 40 to 60 percent, and we provide a written estimate with insurance applied before any work begins.
When you need a crown
Crowns are indicated when a tooth has lost too much structure to hold a filling reliably. Common reasons:
- After a root canal: every root-canal-treated tooth needs a crown to prevent fracture
- Large existing fillings that have cracked or are too big to redo
- Severely worn teeth from grinding, where height and bite have been lost
- Cracked teeth that still have healthy root structure
- Broken teeth from trauma
- Severely discolored or misshapen teeth that cannot be corrected with veneers
- Support for a dental bridge or over a dental implant
Materials we use at Vedha
Porcelain crowns
Full porcelain (layered ceramic) crowns offer the most natural appearance with true translucency that mimics enamel. Best for front teeth where aesthetics matter most.
Zirconia crowns
Monolithic zirconia is the strongest tooth-colored crown material available. It is essentially unbreakable under normal chewing forces. Best for back teeth, grinders, and patients who have broken previous crowns.
Porcelain-fused-to-zirconia (PFZ)
A hybrid that combines the strength of zirconia with a porcelain overlay for natural aesthetics. Works well for premolars and patients who need both strength and beauty.
The two-visit crown process
Visit 1: preparation and temporary (90 minutes)
Dr. Priya numbs the tooth, removes decay and damaged material, shapes the remaining tooth to receive the crown, captures a precise digital scan (iTero, no goopy impressions), and places a temporary crown that protects the prep while the lab crafts your permanent crown.
Visit 2: final placement (30 minutes)
The permanent crown comes back from the lab, we check fit and color, polish, and bond it in place. Minor bite adjustments are made to ensure the crown feels exactly like your natural tooth.
What is included, insurance, and financing
Every crown at Vedha includes the digital scan, the temporary crown, master-lab fabrication, and final placement, with no surprise add-ons. Most PPO plans cover crowns at 40 to 60 percent of allowed fees. We verify your benefits before treatment, give you a written estimate with insurance applied, and offer Cherry and CareCredit financing for any out-of-pocket amount.
Caring for your crown
Treat a crown like a natural tooth. Brush twice daily, floss daily, see us every 6 months. Crowns cannot decay, but the natural tooth underneath the crown edge can, which is why regular cleanings matter. Grinders should wear a night guard to prevent cracking the crown over time.
