Pediatric Dentist in Dover, NJ. Gentle, kid-friendly care from first tooth to teen years.
Vedha Family Dentistry is a true family practice. Your child sees the same trusted dentist from their first cleaning at age one through their senior year of high school. We keep visits short, positive, and explanation-heavy so kids actually look forward to coming back.
Your child's first dental visit at Vedha Family Dentistry should happen by age one or within six months of the first tooth erupting. We are a family-first office: parents welcome in the operatory, same dentist for every visit, gentle kid-friendly technique, and nitrous oxide available for anxious kids. A standard pediatric exam, cleaning, and fluoride runs $180 to $260 and we accept most PPO plans.
The Vedha approach to pediatric dentistry
Kids are not small adults, and they should not be treated like them. Our pediatric workflow is built around four principles:
- Keep it short. The first visit for a toddler is often 15 to 20 minutes. We add time as they get older and comfortable.
- Explain everything. We show every instrument, name it in kid-language, and let the child hold the air syringe before using it in their mouth.
- Never force. If a child is not ready for a specific step today, we try again next visit. Dentistry should never feel traumatic.
- Celebrate every visit. Stickers, small prizes, and a genuine “great job” from the whole team.
Parents are welcome in every room, every appointment. There is no “we do it better without you” here. If your child is more comfortable with you nearby, that is exactly where we want you.
Pediatric services we offer
First dental visits (age 1 to 3)
First visits are short and welcoming. Dr. Priya or a hygienist gently checks erupting teeth, reviews brushing technique with parents, and answers any questions. No X-rays, no procedures, just a positive introduction to the dentist's office.
Routine exams and cleanings (every 6 months)
We see kids every 6 months for professional cleaning, fluoride application, and a careful exam. We teach brushing and flossing age-appropriately and update parents on any areas to watch at home.
Dental sealants
Sealants are thin plastic coatings painted into the grooves of permanent molars to prevent cavities. They are painless, quick, and reduce molar cavities by about 80 percent. Best placed on the first permanent molars around age 6 and second permanent molars around age 12.
Fluoride treatment
Professional fluoride varnish strengthens enamel and remineralizes early cavity spots. Applied every 6 months during routine cleanings for kids with normal cavity risk, or more frequently for high-risk patients.
Fillings and restorative work
When kids do get cavities, we fill them with tooth-colored composite and minimal time in the chair. Nitrous oxide is available for any child who would benefit from a calmer experience.
Custom sports mouthguards
Athletes playing football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, and martial arts should wear a custom mouthguard. We scan, design, and deliver a comfortable custom guard in about a week for $95 to $195.
Pediatric dental emergencies
Kids knock out teeth in sports, bike accidents, and playground falls more often than you would think. Our same-day emergency process is ready. For a knocked-out permanent tooth, put it in milk and call us during office hours within 30 minutes.
Orthodontic monitoring and early treatment
We check developing bites every visit and flag early concerns. Some kids benefit from short, early orthodontic treatment at age 7 to 10 to guide jaw growth. Most wait until age 12 to 14 for Invisalign or braces. We will tell you honestly which your child needs and when.
Keeping kids cavity-free at home
The single most important habit is brushing twice a day for two minutes with a small pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste, from the moment the first tooth appears. For kids under 7, a parent should be actively brushing or supervising every session. Flossing starts when teeth touch (usually around age 2 to 4).
Diet matters as much as brushing. Sticky candy, juice, and constant snacking are the biggest drivers of cavities we see. We coach parents through practical, kid-friendly adjustments at every visit.
